Where to Live as a J. F. Oberlin University Student (Machida Campus)

J. F. Oberlin University's Machida Campus is about a 20-minute walk from Fuchinobe Station. Here are the 15 cheapest stations within roughly 30 minutes* of it, sorted by studio rent. Balancing rent and commute time is the key to a comfortable first apartment in Tokyo — start your search from this list.

Where do students actually live?

J. F. Oberlin University assigns each academic cluster to its own base campus, and this Machida campus is the hub for the main clusters (the Arts and Culture cluster is based at Tokyo Hinatayama, the Aviation Management cluster at Tama, and so on). There's no relocation between years.

Despite the "Machida" name, the campus actually sits closer to Fuchinobe Station on the JR Yokohama Line, in Sagamihara City — a fair distance from Machida Station itself. The real favorite is Fuchinobe, about 8 minutes away by school bus, with convenience stores, supermarkets, and drugstores lining the station area and the highway. Housing splits into two tiers: pricier right by the station, cheaper and quieter in the residential streets further out.

The ranking below centers on cheaper stations along the Yokohama and Sagami lines, such as Katakura, Minami-Osawa, and Sagamihara — but Fuchinobe itself, where the school bus departs, doesn't appear on it. Use the Fuchinobe rent level as your baseline, then browse the ranking for cheaper alternatives.

Short on time between results day and move-in?

In Japan there are often only a few weeks between acceptance and the start of term. A furnished apartment cuts both the setup work and the upfront costs, so you can start student life right away. See the Housing Guide (furnished / share house / standard rental) →
