Where to Live as a Tokyo Gakugei University Student

Tokyo Gakugei University is about a 20-minute walk from Musashikoganei Station. Here are the 15 cheapest stations within roughly 30 minutes* of it, sorted by studio rent. Balancing rent and commute time is the key to a comfortable first apartment in Tokyo — start your search from this list.

Where do students actually live?

Tokyo Gakugei University is based entirely at its single Koganei campus, with no relocation across the four years. The first thing to know: the Tokyu Toyoko Line has a station literally named "Gakugei-Daigaku," but that name dates back to the university's old pre-relocation campus in Meguro Ward and has nothing to do with the current Koganei campus. The real favorite is Musashi-Koganei Station, valued for its shops right at the station and the green surroundings of Koganei Park. Kokubunji Station is also popular for its convenience.

The ranking below centers on cheaper stations further west and south along the Seibu Tamako and Chuo lines, and it doesn't include Musashi-Koganei or Kokubunji, the two real favorites. To avoid searching the wrong neighborhood entirely by typing in "Gakugei-Daigaku Station," start with the rent levels around the actual Koganei campus instead.
